The Obligatory bio
Once I was a radio personality and programmer. Broadcasting was something. Amplitude and frequency modulated radiation, magically piggybacked with music and news and ads, directly to the masses. It was like science fiction. The waves were so powerful you had to take a government test to play with them. Here’s how old I am: I played 45’s. (If you don’t know what they are, ask Jack White or somebody). I learned to write and produce station imaging and commercials, or any other creative thing that needed doing. One of my stations had a slogan: “The 100,000-watt mutha.” So unsubtle. And so I remain.
Post-radio, I co-founded Nashville’s first all-digital marketing agency with an extraordinary person named Hannah. It was called Paramore|Redd. We excelled at travel-tourism and consumer products. I took an exit five years later, at which point it became just Paramore. It went on to make tons more money, and I was humbled.
After a while in the wilderness, I co-founded a startup incubator/agency hybrid called FLO. Five partners, also unsubtle. We had more arguments than Van Halen. We also had a slogan: “Do cool shit with smart people or smart shit with cool people.” And we did, including the creation of Blue Chair Bay Rum and Made In Network—plus some duds which I won’t mention. FLO disbanded after a tearful series of events that required therapy, for me anyway. Meanwhile, BCB and MIN did well and still are.
I went on to consult and create for a bunch of great companies in tech, healthcare, media, marketing, and cookie-making (the kind you eat), plus some cool agencies, too. They’re on the front page of this website. Now I’m retired.
